Decorate Your Small Room With These Five Simple Tips
A room shouldn’t be lacking in style just because it’s small. There are plenty of ways that you can make your room look more stylish and make it functional through decorating. Here are a few tips on how to decorate the small rooms of your home that will allow you to best utilize space while keeping it stylish.
Paint an Accent Wall
Consider painting a single wall in the room in a bold color so that it may act as an accent wall. Doing this will make the room appear larger while giving it a stylish feel at the same time. Ensure that the color of the other walls is complementary to the color of the bold wall so that it doesn’t seem out of place.
Though, you should really stay away from dark colors. If the accent wall is going to be painted in a bold color you shouldn’t choose black, dark blue, red or dark green. You choice should fall along a color like pink, yellow or aquamarine instead. You only make the area look much smaller when you paint it in dark colors.
Choose Furniture that Fits the Size of Your Room
Furniture should be in scale. This means not putting a huge sleigh bed in a small bedroom. The same rules apply to the family room. You should use pieces that fit well in the room without taking too much space. Walking comfortably without having to bump into all your furniture is something that you will definitely want.
Find Furniture that Works as Storage, Too
You should also look for pieces that can pull double duty, especially when working with a small room. Something like a wooden chest can be used as a coffee table or side table, and works well as a storage space for things like blankets, toys and other items that need to be stored. This way you will be able to sneak in more storage space and you will have more room in a small area.
You should be sure to use as much vertical space as you possibly can. So much more storage are and design space can be added when you maximize the height of your walls. You can get a great vertical storage space out of pieces such as bookshelves and armoires.
You can also use shelving that is attached to the wall, it’s a great idea. Design and functional space would be the functions of the shelving. You can add some style to the room by simply placing some of your books and knickknacks in an interesting manner on the shelves.
Let in Some Light to Open Up a Room
Filter as much natural light into the room as possible. Natural light allows the room to look as if it’s bigger and brighter. A pair of plain drapes or blinds will work well for you, some window treatments can be overwhelming and should be avoided. The room will look larger if you reflect light in it by adding mirrors to the walls.
Choose Lighting that Doesn’t Overwhelm the Space
You should avoid any really large lighting fixtures or any fixtures that hang down. Without having to take up much space and keeping the room well lit, track lighting is a great idea to go with.
You shouldn’t have to work too hard and be bored when you are decorating a small space. You can really enjoy your small space if you make sure to keep things simple, functional and personal in style as much a possible; not only will it work right but it’ll look good too.
