This time, just get closer to reality. As for the budget, you need not spend so much. All you have to do is to be creative and resourceful. If you have enough furniture already, then just rearrange them. Buy some house paint and refurbish it. Even a simple general cleaning can lead to a simple design and decorating. The issue on fear of making a not so creative design is very subjective. It is your house and it is you who lives there, thus whatever pleases you would be the best interior design plan for you. Just make sure you don’t overdo it nor neglect some basic principles in design and decorating. Some of these basic principles are discussed hereinafter.

There are different things to consider that it normally requires some time from conceptual blueprint to the actual designing and decorating. You have to primarily take into account the type of look you want to give to your house. Having in mind a general idea of how you want your house to look like, you need to determine the best color combinations that perfectly match with the era or geographic basis of your design and decorating plan.

Say, if you want a Mediterranean look, then your color combination must be classic rather than using very light colors. After deciding on the color scheme that fits your design and decorating plan, you then determine the scale of your home interior. This scale guides the owner to design on maximizing the available space, bearing in mind the need to make it appear inviting and organized. Whether your home interior is large or small, the size of furniture you place must always be in proportional to the available space without making it appear cluttered, cramped, and uneasy. Your plan must also be in style. It is not enough that you just go by the book to make sure you do it right. Give your design the elements of your personality and attitude. Style your home interior according to your needs and desires. Your style must also blend with the rest of the elements already mentioned such as color and scale.

With all these, designing your home interior really needs some of your time to make sure you do it right. However, do not fear of experimenting. Make your own plan according to your budget capacity and do not fear of committing mistakes along the way because you can easily rectify it. The main point in interior design is not to please guests, but to give you comfort and tranquility in your own home.

It is rather easy to notice the positive details of any given room, making the task of accentuating the positive features easier, but how do you deal with the problem areas? The interior design philosophy teaches us to eliminate the negative and when it is impossible to eliminate it, just camouflage it. Do you have any area in your home that you wish doesn’t exist or is it in a particular architectural style that doesn’t go with your own personal taste or does it have pillars or columns that are distracting?

Here are some possibilities of problem areas that you might have in your home and how to deal with these.

How would you deal with a wall containing a distracting column?

1. You can make it disappear by installing cabinets that will fill the spaces on either side of it. This will make the column appear as if it were part of the straight wall because it is already in line with the cabinet’s face.

2. If your area is big enough and you can afford to lose some space, just simply build a new wall that runs across the face of the column.

3. The simplest and least expensive way is to paint the wall and column with one color, making the column blend into the wall and thus make it appear less obvious.

Have you come across a room with a pillar planted right in the middle? I bet you wanted to hack that pillar right off the floor. The problem with a pillar placed right in the middle of a room is that it cannot just be removed as much as we want to. This usually is essential in the structure’s integrity and eliminating this is definitely not an option. How then will you deal with this kind of a problem? Although this is not a positive feature of a room, you might want to accentuate it and make it stand out. Instead of looking at it in a negative perspective, try to make it a positive feature by making it the focal point.

1. You can paint the pillar a brilliant color, especially if you are planning to have a high-tech or avant-garde room.

2. You can also use some eye-catching device or paint it in stripes to catch attention.

3. If you are planning to have a traditional room, try installing an intricately designed capital and make the pillar stand out.

4. If you have a large room, a mid-room pillar may actually give you the opportunity to divide one big room into two. The pillar could be used as a starting point of a wall that will convert one huge room into two different areas.

5. The easiest and least expensive way to camouflage a pillar is to paint it with the same color as the walls. Although this is not a very effective way to eliminate the irritating center pillar it can at least make it less obvious.

6. The best way to make a mid-room pillar disappear is to mirror it. This is very effective since the mirror will just merely reflect the rest of the room.

Having vivid mental pictures and good imaginations of how things should look like will enable you to solve your interior design dilemmas. And with some help from the interior designer’s well followed philosophy, you can create the same harmonious room that often only designers can achieve.

1. Bed

A Victorian bed should be showy wooden affair or made from either cast-iron, brass or a combination of both these metals. You may be able to get a skilled carpenter to produce or adapt a full bed to queen size or merging twin beds together to produce a king size. But if you really do not have the money to spend on such a luxury there are many modern reproduction beds available at a fraction of the cost.

2. Dressing the Bed

The bed should be elaborately dressed with canopies and drapes, lots of pillows, flounces, ribbons and other trims. If you can search out your local fabric store and see if they have period type quilts etc., available.

3. Tables

It is important that you include either a marble topped table or cabinet in your room design as well as a wicker, bamboo or faux bamboo table, round or skirted table as a nightstand. Why not visit your local junk or antique shop to see what turned and carved wooden tables they may have for inclusion in your design from that era.

4. Lighting

It is vital that you get the lighting right in decorating a Victorian bedroom and this should include the classic ginger-jar style, or those that are made from porcelain, crystal or brass. You may even decide to use candlestick holders which have been transformed to be used as a light. Under each lamp you should place a crocheted doily for obtaining the authentic period look.

5. Dressers & Chest of Drawers

These should be typically made from either dark stained oak, mahogany or walnut and be embellished with carvings, pediments and have either ornate brass or carved wooden drawer pulls. You may be lucky to find ones that also have a candle stand, tilting mirror and marble top to them.

6. Flooring

To provide that authentic Victorian look to your bedroom use Oriental area rugs or straw type mats. You may if you wish us hooked or machine loomed rugs that have a floral or a swirly abstract pattern on them.

7. Accessories

Such accessories you should include in your room are period pictures (include subjects such as botanicals, children, maidens (young women) and animals in these pictures). Also include an elaborate golden or stained wood framed mirror in to your design. If you can also place fresh flowers in period style vases in the room and visit your local junk or antique shop to find some Victorian style collectibles for inclusion in your design such as china dishes and figurines.

8. Windows

These should be dressed with full curtains or drapes which have ruffles, valances, braid, lace, bows and tassels on them (but you don’t need to have every just one or two will suffice). The materials your should be using to dress your windows should be either velvet, brocade, delicate florals and then layered with lace sheers.

So decorating a Victorian bedroom can be quite easy all you need to do is just carry out a little research and hopefully you will be able to design and decorate the bedroom of your dreams.

Your bedroom does more than just serve the need for a place to sleep. It accommodates you at all times of day, providing space for reading, studying, watching TV, talking on the phone, eating, and using the computer. Because of this, the bed is no longer the primary piece of furniture in the bedroom. Bedroom desks, large nightstands, or a television might be a better focus for your bedroom interior design. If you watch a lot of television in your bedroom, you might want to consider a chair and ottoman for more comfortable viewing.

If you like to read in your bedroom, you should pay special attention to the lighting in your bedroom. Dim, moody lighting may be restful, but it will cause eye strain when reading. The lighting should be at a level where you do not accidentally shade it, and tall enough to shine light on the book or magazine. Bedroom interior design professionals suggest that when using lamps in the bedroom, the lower edge of the lamp shade should be around eye level when seated.

Remember to choose colors that you find restful when decorating your bedroom. Exciting colors such as red should be avoided unless you personally find them comforting. Strong colors have been said to promote insomnia. Designing your bedroom interior with a splash of a bright color will liven up a room, but it should not be allowed to dominate.

Layered curtains in the bedroom are and excellent interior design choice. This allows you to wake up to filtered light, open the curtains for full light, or black out the room for naps and sleeping in. Blackout lined draperies will protect you from morning sun, whereas sheers or thin blinds will filter light for a gentle glow in the morning. Bedroom interior design has many options, and can be tailored to your personal preferences. The bedroom should be your sanctuary, and it is important to feel comforted and restful when you are there.

Principle 1: UNITY

When doing interior design it is necessary to think of the house as a totality; a series of spaces linked together by halls and stairways. It is therefore appropriate that a common style and theme runs throughout. This is not to say that all interior design elements should be the same but they should work together and complement each other to strengthen the whole composition. A way to create this theme or storyline is with the well considered use of color.

Principle 2: FOCAL POINT

Interior design’s biggest enemy is boredom. A well-designed room always has, depending on the size of it, one or more focal points. A focal point must be dominant to draw attention and interesting enough to encourage the viewer to look further. A focal point thus must have a lasting impression but must also be an integral part of the decoration linked through scale, style, color or theme.

Principle 3:BALANCE

Balance can be described as the equal distribution of visual weight in a room.
The simplest, and most formal type of balance is symmetrical balance, where the same objects are repeated in the same positions on either side of a vertical axis, such as one would find in old fashioned state or gala rooms.

Asymmetrical balance is more appropriate in design today. Balance is achieved with some dissimilar objects that have equal visual weight or eye attraction. Asymmetrical balance is more casual and less contrived in feeling, but more difficult to achieve.

Principle 4: PROPORTION

Proportion refers to the relative size measured against other elements or against some mental norm or standard. This design principle is of extreme importance when decorating a room.

Principle 5: RHYTHM

In musical terms we would describe rhythm as the beat or pulse of the music. In interior design, rhythm is all about visual pattern repetition. Visual rhythm is based on movement. As in music, rhythm in design can also be staccato – abrupt and dynamic or legato – connecting and flowing.

Principle 6: COLOR

Color is an element that tends to inspire emotion in people because color has an influence on the value of life above and beyond other considerations. Colors therefore have a definite impact on the atmosphere that you want to create when doing interior design.

Principle 7: DETAILS

Another important element of interior design where it is necessary to take infinite pains is details. Everything from the trimming on the lamp shade, the color of the piping on the scatter cushion, to the light switches and cupboard handles need attention. Unlike color people find details boring. As a result it gets neglected and skimmed over or generally left out.
As color expresses the whole spirit and life of a scheme; details are just as an important underpinning of interior design. Details should not be obvious but they should be right, enhancing the overall feel of a room.

These principles of interior design should guide you when you start either doing it yourself, or discussing your ideas with your interior designer.

A good place to begin your search for bedroom interior design ideas is a rundown of architectural design periods or eras for a design theme. You may adopt an Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Gothic, Oriental, Modern theme, and the like.

1. Egyptian theme

Gold is a popular color for the Egyptian motif because that was how magnificent pyramid interiors were. For this theme, you may also incorporate Egyptian writings and images that were prevalent in tombs and pyramids.

2. Greek and Roman theme

These two are alike in a way, and the Romans were said to improve a number of Greek arts including architecture. Both used columns, and if you have a big space then this is one of those good bedroom interior design ideas to work on.

3. Gothic

Choose this theme if you like the color black, gargoyles, and an eccentric looking bedroom. If you are looking for bedroom interior design ideas that make an impact, then this is certainly one of those.

4. Oriental and Modern

These two design influences can pertain to the Japanese way of designing. However, oriental can also garner influences from other Asian countries and modern design can also be free from any oriental influences. Moreover, modern design can be reflected by the use of industrial materials as well as the use of the minimalism concept.

Decorating your bedroom with a period theme in mind is just an example of a long list of possibilities for bedroom interior design ideas. There are lots more and you’ll soon be overwhelmed with all the options you can do to your bedroom.

1. Food themes are great for kitchens. Some popular kitchen themes include apples, chili peppers, fruit, citrus fruit, Italian food, Spanish food, cafe and coffee drinks, pasta, vegetables (carrots, celery, tomatoes), wine and grapes, tropical fruit like bananas and coconuts, and water themes.

2. Themes relating to a particular era, such as 50′s diner, retro 1960′s kitchen, and sleek modernist themes.

3. Themes relating to a certain geographical location are great. Some ideas include the Caribbean, Hawaii, Southwestern themes, Italian Provence themes, and Asian Themes.

4. Some great bathroom themes can be inspired by particular objects that remind us of freshness, such as shells, or palm trees. Ocean themes, colorful fish, tropical birds, and sun and moon themes are all great. You can also choose things like flowers (or perhaps a particular type of flower like roses, daisies, hibiscus or even violets). Perhaps a child’s bathroom could have a theme relating to something that the child enjoys. Horses, trucks, sports, or even a particular sports team are all great kids bathroom themes.

5. A theme can be based around a particular color palette or feeling that you want to evoke. Perhaps the sunset inspires you, or the colors of the beach. Maybe you enjoy the colors found in the rain forest or in a summer flower garden. Inspiration can even come from a piece of furniture or a particular painting you love.

Finding a great theme for a kitchen or bathroom (or for any room of the home for that matter) can be challenging, but there are many great products on the market as well as themes to choose from. Be sure to have fun creating whatever room you love!
